Twents Volkslied, English Translation
Between Dinkel and Regge there lies a land
Our fair and our diligent Twente
The land of labour, the land of nature
The praise unmeasurable of Twente
There golden grain waves upon the field
The swift-flowing brook turns the mill wheel
There the heath lies in its purple-red cloak
That is our so dear Twente
Where Twickel lifts its towers from oak leaves
De Lutte gets its hills to twinkle
The Easter fires burn all about
And the countryfolk let the mid-winter horn tinkle
There our Dinkel flows so lovely through the land
Through woods and fields, along Lossers sand
There rests our eye, from the hilltops
On the lovely landscape our Twente
The smoke cloud that rises on the horizon
Points us to towns in labour not second
Inhabited by people hardworking and solid
They are the seats of the mighty present
Beyond them, in farmland on heath and field
The myth and fairy tale do still wield
There the Tubantian rests in his hilly grave
The past besides the present of Twente
And if fate were to carry us from Twente astray
We will make sure to ever remember
No other region, however fair it may be
Can grant us that Twente ember
Abroad we shake eachothers hands
Remembering our small but dear lands
And though our home may stand in foreign parts
Our heart will ever remain in Twente
